As art historian Claudio Strinati notes: 'Caravaggio painted emotions, and the Jubilee was a time of emotions, not a reason'. In 1600, the Holy Year, Michelangelo Merisi (1571-1610) established his position as an artist by presenting two paintings that forever changed history of art and his own life: 'The Calling of Saint Matthew' and 'The Martyrdom of Saint Matthew".
